Smoke Detector Compliance Inspection Required for Change of Tenancy

Reminder to Landlords
REMINDER TO ALL LANDLORDS:
When having a change of tenancy, remember to have the Fire Prevention Smoke Detector Compliance inspection. Borough Ordinance #10-5 https://ecode360.com/34947841

The requirements include:
  • Smoke Detectors - every level of residence, placed within 10 feet of sleeping areas, have a 10 year sealed battery, be UL approved and in working order.
  • Carbon Monoxide Detectors - placed within 10 feet of sleeping areas, with a manufacturer date greater than 5 years must be replaced
  • Fire Extinguishers - must be a 2A:10B:C and located within 10 feet of the kitchen, near a path of egress and not blocked, installed using the manufacturers brackets/hangars and with the instructions clearly visible.

There is a $50 fee, please make check payable to Borough of Midland Park. Put the application and fee in an envelope marked Fire Prevention and drop them in the black box hanging to the left of the entranceway door, marked “Tax Payments”. You will be contacted by email or phone to schedule the inspection.
 
The Fire Official’s hours for inspections are Wednesdays and Fridays between 8-9 A.M.
