Tax Collector

The Tax Collector is responsible for the yearly billing, reporting, enforcing and quarterly collection of tax levies within guidelines mandated by the State of New Jersey.  As a statutory officer of the State of New Jersey, the Tax Collector is obligated to follow all the State Statues regarding property tax collection including date, interest of delinquent tax payments, and tax sale procedures.  The Tax Collector is charged with the receipt and collection of all taxes, assessments, and miscellaneous revenues both current and delinquent.

TAX DUE DATES:  Taxes are due in quarterly installments. These dates are set by the State of New Jersey.

  • 1st Quarter             February 1
  • 2nd Quarter            May 1
  • 3rd Quarter             August 1
  • 4th Quarter             November 1

Payments received after 4:30 PM will be considered received as of the next business day.

The Borough of Midland Park offers a 10 calendar day grace period for payment of taxes.  Payment must be received by the last day of the grace period to avoid interest; therefore if the 10th falls on a Saturday, Sunday or Holiday, the last day of the grace period is extended to the next business day.  Please note that on the day following the last day of the grace period, interest will be charged, reverting to the statutory due dates, at 8% per annum on the first $1,500.00 of the delinquency, and 18% on any amount in excess of $1,500. Therefore, any balance remaining is a principal balance which accrues additional interest until the account is brought current.  According to N.J.S.A. 54:4-67, a penalty of 6% will be charged on any delinquency, accrued in the calendar year, exceeding $10,000.00 as of December 31.
